nexotheca

Self-hosted media control plane

Your media stack,
working as one.

Nexotheca turns Jellyfin, Audiobookshelf, Grimmory, the Arrs, and your disks into one catalog with policy, provenance, and a complete audit trail.

One front door

Every source, one place to watch, read, and listen.

Move across films, series, ebooks, and audiobooks without mentally rebuilding your stack. Nexotheca remembers the work, the edition, the progress, and which specialist app should open it.

// demo catalog: Blender Foundation open movies (CC-BY) and public-domain classics. Your shelves are built from what your own servers report.

Cross-stack context

Answers to the questions that fall between your tools.

Every app in a self-hosted stack is good at one job. Nexotheca owns the cross-cutting questions none of them can answer alone.

01 · inventory

What content exists, where is it, and which app manages it?

02 · people

What do you and others value, share, request, or protect?

03 · safety

What cleanup or acquisition is safe to run, and why?

04 · accountability

What did a person, connector, policy, or agent do, and can it be undone?

Bring your own stack

Keep the tools that already do their job well.

Nexotheca sits above specialist services instead of replacing them. Jellyfin keeps playing, Audiobookshelf keeps listening progress, Grimmory keeps reading progress, and the Arrs keep organizing. Nexotheca supplies the shared catalog, policy, and history.

A work is not a file

It knows the difference between a title and a copy.

The same film under Czech, Slovak, and English names is one work. Nexotheca keeps the concept, the edition, the bytes, and the disk location as separate, linked facts, so it always knows which copy is canonical and which is a duplicate.

Safe by construction

Opinionated where it matters. Never reckless.

A control plane touches real files and real policy, so its defaults are conservative by design.

  • Every location has an authority. Nexotheca never silently takes ownership from your Arr apps, downloaders, Syncthing, or Calibre.
  • Plans precede mutations. Every change is previewed, policy checked, idempotent, verified, and carries a way to undo it.
  • Protection is an invariant. A never-delete rule is enforced by the control plane and the executor, separate from a social star.
  • Quarantine before deletion. Reversible operations are the default. Irreversible removal is the rare exception.
  • AI proposes, code disposes. Models identify, classify, and suggest. Deterministic code evaluates policy and executes.
  • Local sovereignty. A friend can recommend or request. Your instance still applies your rules, quotas, and approvals.

A deliberate trust ladder

Useful before autonomous.

Capability is earned one rung at a time, each step proven before the next unlocks the ability to change more.

1

Read-only control tower

Browse a unified catalog, reconcile every server, cache artwork safely, and map where each file lives, with zero writes to any app or disk.

Where it starts
2

Observed storage & reversible operations

A restricted inventory agent, connector-aware ownership, dry-runs, approvals, quarantine, restore, and a separately privileged executor that is never part of the web app.

3

Acquisition as local intent

Route requests through Seerr, Sonarr, Radarr, and your indexers under your policy, without reimplementing what those tools already do well.

4

More content & assisted curation

Music, audiobooks, ebooks, podcasts, and photos join the catalog, alongside constrained identifier, classifier, and storage-steward jobs, added only after their evaluation fixtures exist.

5

Trusted federation

Share with friends' independently run stacks through signed events, quotas, and visibility rules. No remote instance ever gains your connector credentials or command authority.

Two ways to run

Yours to run. Ours to run for you.

The community edition is the complete product, not a demo with the good parts held back. The hosted edition exists for the people who want the outcome without the hobby.
